Our Program
SMHS Outplacement Program
Steps Middle & High School (SMHS) is a specialized day program for special education students in grades 6-12 with behavioral challenges. Designed to replicate a typical high school experience, it offers small class sizes, a high staff-to-student ratio, and team-based behavioral and academic instruction from certified staff, social workers, and behavior technicians. Students receive weekly counseling, work on postsecondary and transition goals, and benefit from a tiered behavioral support system overseen by an on-site Board Certified Behavior Analyst. They may also pursue employment opportunities and their driver’s license with program support.
The Steps Middle & High School (SMHS) Expelled Student Program is a program serving general education and special education students that have been expelled from their district school. Students enrolled in this program participate in their education through online coursework supported by certified special education and content area teachers, engage in weekly counseling sessions with school social workers and counselors, and participate in a program wide behavior system designed to facilitate work completion.
